An object is said to be in statu nascendi (Latin) if the entire observation period starts at a time before the beginning of the object’s age, if the record of its successive positions and/or velocities is incomplete, or if it is found to be beyond a planet’s orbit. The date of a nascendi object is the date of the first recorded observation of the object. The position and velocity remain undefined until then.  A major problem for nascendi dating is that the absence of observations cannot be distinguished from observation errors; also, objects entering a planet’s orbit early in the observation period are not detected until later; and assumptions about the orbits of asteroids are usually incorrect. A similar problem faces the discovery of comets; when a comet is seen in the sky, it becomes an object in statu nascendi.
On the other hand, if the object is determined to be in statu nascendi and the ephemeris and the radial velocity are known accurately, then the object’s age can be determined by the difference between the observation date and its radial velocity’s reference date. An object is said to be in statu relicti (Latin) when the record of the object’s successive positions and/or velocities ends before the object’s age. The record of the object’s successive positions and velocities never ends even when the object is known to be older than its last recorded position. The date of a relicti object is the date when the object’s last recorded position was known. If the object is also in statu nascendi, then the difference between the observation date and the object’s last recorded position is the object’s age; that is, the object’s age is the difference between the observation date and the object’s last recorded position in years, days, or seconds, depending on the observer’s reference date. Likewise, if the object is in statu nascendi but its ephemeris and radial velocity are known, then the object’s age can be determined by the difference between the observation date and the object’s reference date. In a particular application of gas turbine engines, the gas turbine engine powers an electric generator. The output power of the generator is regulated by a power plant controller which monitors generator output power and adjusts the amount of fuel that is provided to the combustor to maintain a substantially constant output power from the generator.
In many gas turbine engines, cooling air is extracted from the compressor and provided to the combustor where the extracted cooling air is used to cool the combustor components. To provide additional cooling, heat exchangers may be provided in the cooling air flowpath in the combustion section of the gas turbine engine. Such heat exchangers receive a cooling air flow from the compressor and provide a second cooling air flow to the combustor components.
However, the turbine components are often positioned in the hot turbine section, which makes it difficult to provide cooling air to the turbine components. In particular, the turbine components are in direct flow communication with the combustor, making it difficult to separate the cooling air flow from the compressed air flow and provide the cooling air flow separately to the turbine components. Furthermore, the turbine components, in particular the turbine blades, often operate at very high temperatures, making it difficult to separate the turbine components from the compressed air flow.
